I just signed up for Newton Open Studios, April 1+2, 2017 - I am forcing spring. I'm looking forward to working toward a show with lots of new materials and a some old favorites including a replica of the first piece of jewelry I made in 1993. The Plaster Button Necklace is made from plaster buttons, construction elements used in restoring old lath and plaster construction. I found a few of these plaster buttons on the ground as I was taking 6am walks around Crystal Lake in Newton Center, MA, close to home. I loved the perforated metal and as I found multiples of the buttons, I took it as a sign to make something.
It is interesting to look back to where you started with a craft. My design instincts about this industrial metal making 24+ years ago still very much resonate today. It's comforting to have something constant.
